Internationally known cellist Ana Rucner spent this summer on Brač to help preserve the cultural heritage of the island, that is, as an ambassador of the ‘Island of Brač’ Foundation – somewhere between the sea and the stars. During her stay, Ana also visited the Jakšić Gallery and workshops of family members and, delighted with the works of the Jakšić family, took a series of photographs and performances with our works. The first photograph in the series was taken next to the sculpture “Guardian Angel”, by the academic sculptor Lovro Jakšić in front of the Branislav Dešković Art Gallery, next to which the musician was photographed on several occasions. One of these photos shows Ana in a stone dress by fashion designer Ida Stipčić Jakšić, with whom the greatest collaboration actually took place.
On several occasions, Ana wore her jewelry made of semi-precious stones and silver, as well as older creations handmade from various materials. For example, Ana also wore the already mentioned and famous Stone Dress, 14 years old, while playing the cello in one of Brač’s quarries. In addition to quarries, caves and various bays on the island of Brač, the famous Zlatni rat beach was used as a natural backdrop for photographs. In this photo, Ana posed dressed in Ida’s seashell dress in an interesting composition with a wave and sea foam, lying partially immersed in the sea.
The musician also wore some of Ida’s numerous denim creations, one even riding a horse trotting on the sea in one of Brač’s bays.
These beautiful sets were designed and photographed by our famous Brač photographer Robert Barila, who is also the organizer of this visit and the director of the Foundation for Research and Preservation of the Heritage of the Island of Brač and author of the monograph ‘Island of Brač – somewhere between the sea and stars’. We had the honor of collaborating with Robert many times and participating in his very interesting ideas.
