Lovre Jakšić is an academic sculptor who has been creating works for both private and public spaces since the beginning of his artistic career, while continuously exhibiting on the Croatian art scene. Owing to a long family tradition of stone craftsmanship, he has devoted the majority of his oeuvre to stone, the material that defines his artistic expression.
He is the author of numerous stone sculptures, public monuments, and monumental works of art. His sculptures can be found in many locations throughout Croatia, from Dubrovnik and Vrsar to Vukovar, Split, and the island of Brač. He is particularly recognised for his stone portraits, stone busts, and commissioned figurative sculptures created for both private and public spaces.
Born on 18 September 1981 in Split, he graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Split, specialising in Sculptural Design, before studying at the Arts Academy of the University of Split. He graduated in Sculpture in 2005 under the mentorship of Professor Kažimir Hraste, earning the title of Academic Sculptor. He is a member of the Croatian Fine Artists Association of Split (HULU Split).
Today, he works through Jakšić Gallery and the family stone workshop on the island of Brač, where his sculptures, public monuments, and artistic projects continue to be created.
Lovre Jakšić has been actively exhibiting since 1996 through both solo and group exhibitions. Many of his sculptures and public monuments are permanently installed in public spaces throughout Croatia, enriching their surroundings and demonstrating the enduring value of stone sculpture.
“Lovre’s experience of form, due to its focus on the immediacy and vitality of the material, which it addresses daily, is constantly encouraged to reconsider and vary the solutions achieved.”
