We had the honour of working with Krug, a Michelin-starred restaurant that holds a special place on Split’s gastronomic map. Restaurant Krug is recognised for its clear vision. For its precise execution. And for its strong connection to local ingredients. Every detail in the space has a purpose. And nothing is left to chance.
Our task was to design and produce stone serving elements for the restaurant. The focus was on stone vessels and stone details used in daily service. For the restaurant’s owner, Karlo, it was essential to use local materials and natural resources. That is why white Brač stone was a logical and honest choice. A stone with origin. And character.
Karlo is a chef with a clear vision. He combines local ingredients, seasonality, and precise technique. He creates dishes full of contrast and pleasure. Our approach to stone design followed the same philosophy. Simplicity. Functionality. And respect for the material.
We produced stone coasters for glasses. The restaurant logo was discreetly applied. The coasters are precisely finished. Stable. And pleasant to the touch. Visually understated. Yet clearly recognisable.
We also created stone containers for a small warm towel. This towel is used after courses eaten by hand. The container is shaped to retain moisture. And to remain stable on the table. Without excess material. And without unnecessary lines.
Special attention was given to simple rectangular rests for cutlery. They clearly define the placement of utensils. And contribute to the cleanliness of the table. Their form is clean. And fully functional.
Small stone bowls were also produced for serving olive oil, homemade butter, and other delicacies prepared by the restaurant. Each stone vessel is adapted to its contents. And to the rhythm of service.
We also designed stone containers for ice. They maintain a low temperature. And visually integrate into the overall table setting. The ice remains clean. And stable during service.
The gallery is often entrusted with designing and producing custom-made stone objects. Objects that enhance spaces. That elevate events. Or that expand a client’s offering with special gifts, created exclusively for them.
Such stone details are essential in the design of high-end restaurants. They do not draw attention to themselves. But they create a sense of quality. And consistency. The use of white Brač stone emphasises local identity. And respect for natural materials.
Stone design at Restaurant Krug is not decoration. It is part of the experience. And an extension of the kitchen’s philosophy.
