Our painter, Dina Jakšić Pavasović, is exhibiting at the 7th Painting Biennale, one of the most relevant events on the contemporary art scene in Croatia. Her triptych, symbolically titled “Red Line”, is presented at the Home of Croatian Artists, a venue that has long brought together leading artists and reflected current developments in Croatian painting. Participation in such an exhibition confirms the continuity, quality, and recognisability of her artistic work within the broader context of contemporary art.
The Painting Biennale offers not only an overview of the current state of the scene, but also clearly highlights emerging directions, artistic research, and authorial approaches that shape contemporary art. Through a carefully curated selection of works by artists of different generations, it creates a layered and dynamic image of Croatian painting – from established names to younger artists introducing new visual languages and approaches. Within this context, the work of Dina Jakšić Pavasović finds its place as an authentic and recognisable artistic expression that successfully communicates with both audiences and professionals.
In her artistic practice, Dina primarily explores the relationship between form and colour, treating them as active carriers of meaning within the composition. Her works are characterised by strong expressiveness, rich chromatic intensity, and a pronounced texture achieved through layered, impasto application of paint. The surface of her paintings is never merely a background – it becomes a space of action, a trace of process, and a vessel of emotional charge, recording every gesture and artistic decision.
The triptych “Red Line” consists of three large-scale canvases, each developing its own distinct colour and formal composition. While each canvas functions as an autonomous work, they are connected by a subtle yet powerful visual element – a thin red line that moves from one panel to another. This line is not merely a formal connector, but a bearer of meaning that unifies the entire work into a cohesive whole.
In everyday life, the red line carries multiple symbolic meanings. It can signify a boundary, warning, or prohibition, but at the same time it can represent direction, guidance, or orientation. This duality becomes the central theme of the triptych. The red line is not simply a visual accent – it becomes a space of tension, dialogue, and interpretation, existing between limitation and freedom, between control and movement.
In the exhibited works, Dina’s ability to achieve strong emotional and visual impact through reduced forms and bold colour contrasts is clearly evident. The dynamic interplay between yellow, blue, and red surfaces further enhances the rhythm of the composition, while the textured surface intensifies the sense of immediacy and gesture. The viewer is not limited to a purely visual experience, but is invited into a space of personal interpretation and inner dialogue with the work.
Participation in the 7th Painting Biennale confirms the quality and relevance of Dina Jakšić Pavasović’s artistic practice, as well as the continuity of her work rooted in a strong connection to artistic and family heritage. This triptych continues the development of her distinctive artistic language and naturally aligns with contemporary movements in Croatian painting.
