We are proud to announce that our stone product set “Quatro” was selected for the longlist of the prestigious Dezeen Awards 2021, one of the world’s most respected awards in architecture, interiors, and product design. The awards are organised by Dezeen, the leading international architecture and design platform based in London, followed daily by millions of readers, professionals, and design enthusiasts around the globe. Through its publications, competitions, and awards programmes, Dezeen showcases outstanding contemporary projects, products, and creators who push the boundaries of creativity, innovation, and sustainability.
Each year, the Dezeen Awards bring together some of the most talented designers, architects, and creative studios from around the world. The 2021 competition featured renowned international designers and design firms, while among the Croatian participants were acclaimed studios such as Bruketa&Žinić&Grey and other prominent representatives of the local creative scene. Out of more than 4,700 entries submitted worldwide, only 308 projects were selected for the longlist, including our stone set “Quatro”. Being included in this selection is a significant recognition of our work and proof that contemporary Croatian stone design can stand alongside the best international projects.
The “Quatro” collection was created as a fusion of contemporary product design, traditional stonemasonry craftsmanship, and a thoughtful commitment to sustainability. Made from natural stone, the collection consists of four interconnected elements with different functions, including decorative fruit bowls, a stone basket, a wine cooler, and complementary accessories that together form a harmonious and functional design concept. Its minimalist lines, refined geometric forms, and the timeless beauty of natural stone give the collection an elegant character that fits perfectly into contemporary interiors, luxury villas, hotels, and representative business spaces.
A particularly important aspect of the project lies in the way it is produced. “Quatro” was designed with the goal of maximising material efficiency, following the principles of sustainable and responsible design. All four elements are created from a single block of stone, carefully planned and precisely cut to produce four separate functional objects. In other words, one thoughtfully designed cut generates four individual pieces while making the fullest possible use of a valuable natural material.
This approach is based on the increasingly important concept of zero-waste design, whose aim is to minimise waste and maximise the use of available resources. In today’s design and manufacturing industries, sustainability is no longer simply a desirable quality—it is a necessity. By embracing zero-waste principles, the environmental impact of production is reduced, the value of natural materials is respected, and products are created that combine aesthetics, functionality, and responsibility towards future generations.
The entire production process takes place in our stonemasonry workshop on the island of Brač, where generations of stone-working expertise meet contemporary technologies and original design. From the initial concept and product development to stone processing and final hand-finishing, every stage is carried out within the Jakšić workshop. This complete control over the production process allows us to maintain exceptional quality standards and meticulous attention to detail.
The natural texture of the stone, precise craftsmanship, and elegant metal accents make “Quatro” not only a functional object but also a sophisticated decorative piece. As an original stone design product, it represents a unique combination of art, craftsmanship, and design while carrying forward the rich stonemasonry tradition of Brač. Thanks to its originality and quality, “Quatro” also makes an exceptional luxury gift for lovers of architecture, design, and natural materials.
Being selected for the Dezeen Awards longlist is both a confirmation of the quality of our work and a strong motivation for future projects. We are especially honoured that a product created in a family-run workshop on Brač has been recognised among thousands of entries from some of the world’s leading designers. Such recognition confirms that outstanding stone product design, grounded in tradition, innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship, can successfully find its place on the international design stage.
