New creations by Ida Stipčić Jakšić have once again arrived in our galleries. For this latest collection, the artist and jewellery designer has chosen one of the most treasured gemstones in history – lapis lazuli, a captivating stone that is impossible not to admire. With its deep celestial blue colour and shimmering golden flecks of pyrite, lapis lazuli resembles a star-filled night sky and has fascinated people for thousands of years.
Ida Stipčić Jakšić has spent more than four decades creating distinctive unique jewellery from silver, coral, and carefully selected semi-precious stones. Today, she is particularly dedicated to designing and crafting one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of gemstones. Every piece is created individually, making each ring, pendant, necklace, or pair of earrings a small work of art.
Lapis lazuli is renowned for its intense blue colour interwoven with golden particles of pyrite. Its history stretches back more than 6,000 years, with the most famous deposits located in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan. From there, it was transported along ancient trade routes to China, India, Tibet, Mesopotamia, and Egypt. Throughout history, it was used to decorate royal palaces, temples, jewellery, and amulets. Ground into a fine powder, it produced the precious ultramarine pigment used in some of the world’s most celebrated works of art, including details in Vermeer’s famous painting Girl with a Pearl Earring.
In the hands of Ida Stipčić Jakšić, this remarkable stone takes on a new artistic dimension. Each piece of jewellery is crafted as a unique handmade creation, with the stone carefully shaped and combined with sterling silver. Rather than adapting the stone to a predefined design, Ida allows its natural form, texture, and character to guide the creative process. This harmonious combination of hand-finished stone and silver highlights the individuality of every gemstone and creates jewellery that is both elegant and timeless.
Ida’s jewellery is recognised for its expressive forms and prominent gemstones that become the focal point of each design. She is inspired not only by the colour and structure of minerals but also by their symbolism, energy, and unique presence. For many collectors and jewellery lovers, choosing one of her creations becomes an intuitive experience, guided by a personal connection to a particular stone.
This new collection of lapis lazuli jewellery beautifully combines art, nature, and craftsmanship. The rich blue tones of the stone paired with silver create a sophisticated aesthetic suitable for both everyday wear and special occasions. Thanks to its originality and handcrafted quality, this unique jewellery made from semi-precious stone is also a meaningful gift for important life moments.
The collection can be viewed at Jakšić Gallery in Split and Jakšić Gallery in Donji Humac and our workshop on the island of Brač, where visitors can explore a wide selection of Ida’s original jewellery designs. A visit to the galleries offers the opportunity to discover the beauty of natural gemstones, exceptional craftsmanship, and the artistic vision that has defined Ida Stipčić Jakšić’s work for decades.
